REDDING, Calif — A 350-acre prescribed burn initiated by Cal Fire's Shasta Trinity Unit began Friday morning at Gore Ranch. Crews are expected to continue their work throughout the day. According to Cal Fire, the winds caused the smoke to shift in various directions, which was the intended outcome. Initially, Cal Fire said north winds pushed the smoke southward, but as the valley heated up, the wind direction changed, moving from the south.

REDDING, Calif. — A planned 350-acre prescribed burn at the Gore Ranch in South Redding has been postponed until Friday morning due to unfavorable weather conditions. The burn, initially scheduled for last week, faced delays after strong north winds were forecasted and observed, said Jan Smutz, the Vegetation Management Program Battalion Chief for Cal Fire Shasta-Trinity Unit. "There were some strong north winds that were forecast, and we're observed on the ground those days," Smutz said.
