Closure of Sacramento River lifted in Shasta County

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Shasta County Sheriff Michael Johnson lifted the closure of the Sacramento River to recreational boaters. This comes as water releases into the river decrease. The closure had been in effect since February 7, to avoid unnecessary risk to recreational river users/boaters and rescue personnel. Although the water releases have decreased, they are still higher than normal, and you are urged to remain cautious when on or near the river and tributaries.
Dead man found at Butte Creek Ecological Reserve

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff's Office says a man was found dead in the area of the Butte Creek Ecological Reserve off of Honey Run Road on Sunday. The Sheriff's Office identified the man as Jedediah Percifield, age 47 of Chico. Action News Now asked the sheriff's Office if the death is considered suspicious. The office said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Highway 99 shut down in both directions from Red Bluff to Vina

RED BLUFF, Calif. - The Tehama County Board of Supervisors have determined Supervisor Pati Nolen's complaint against six other county workers is unfounded. During a meeting on December 17, 2024, Supervisor Nolen claimed something illegal happened to her during a closed session meeting held on November 26, 2024. Supervisor Nolen claimed Supervisor John Leach, Supervisor Bill Moule and Supervisor Matt Hansen violated county policy and the law.

CHICO, Calif. - The Osteopathic Medical Board of California is investigating a Chico doctor accused of doing drugs on the job. The board is requesting a hearing to address an anonymous complaint against Dr. Michael Fraters. The complaint, filed in March of 2024, accuses Fraters of abusing Codeine while working at Enloe Medical Center's emergency department. It also accuses him of writing fraudulent prescriptions for his coworkers to use for himself.

Firefighters stop forward progress on Concow Fire

CONCOW, Calif. - Cal Fire Butte County stopped forward progress on a vegetation fire on Hog Ranch Road and Hoffman Road in Concow, just before 6 p.m. today. Cal Fire Captain Jake Gilliam said firefighters got the first call at 4:16 p.m. Crews stopped the spread at around half of an acre. No one was hurt. Firefighters will be on scene for the next few hours for mop up. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

REDDING, Calif. - The Shasta County District Attorney's Office determined an officer-involved shooting that happened on July 5, 2023 in Oak Run was justified. District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett said deputies responded to a hostage situation on Mineral School Road where Roger Christopher Maddox was holding three people at gunpoint. Bridgett said the California Highway Patrol Air Operations observed Maddox threatening the victims and repeatedly pointing his gun at them.
