YPSILANTI, MI – Ypsilanti leaders put their support behind “Low Mow May” on Tuesday night, encouraging residents to reduce mowing and let their grass grow to between 6 and 12 inches this month. WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — Drivers across Washtenaw County can expect closures along I-94, M-14 and U.S. 23 in the coming days. Two lanes on westbound I-94 from Jackson Avenue to Parker Road and one lane on westbound M-14 will close from Maple Road to I-94 starting 10 p.m. Friday, May 9. Then, westbound M-14 will completely shut down from Maple Road to I-94 Saturday, May 10.

YPSILANTI, MI — A verbal altercation that escalated into a stabbing left two men hospitalized on Thursday evening. Police responded to a reported stabbing at the Ypsilanti Transit Center on 220 Pearl Street around 7 p.m., May 8, according to an alert from the Ypsilanti Police Department. Officers arrived on scene to find the two men with stab wounds. The two men were in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation, preliminary investigation revealed.

ANN ARBOR, MI – Outgoing University of Michigan President Santa Ono removed his name from a public statement signed by college and university leaders across the country against “unprecedented government overreach” and “political interference” in higher education. Ono’s signature was removed Wednesday, May 7 at his request, according to American Association of Colleges and Universities spokesperson David Tritelli. The association published the letter.

SCIO TWP., MI — Drivers can expect closures in I-94 and M-14 just outside Ann Arbor this weekend, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Two lanes on westbound I-94 from Jackson Avenue to Parker Road and one lane on westbound M-14 will close from Maple Road to I-94 starting 10 p.m. Friday, May 9. The lanes will reopen 5 a.m. Monday, May 12. There will also be a series of complete freeway and ramp shut-downs from midnight to 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 10.
