(WETM) — Sirens rang out in the area of Jerusalem Hill on Saturday after a fire ripped through a home in Elmira. Thick smoke and heavy flames were seen coming from a home on Bowlby Road, just off of Jerusalem Hill Road, sometime after 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.

    HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) — The sold-out bingo fundraising event called Purse Bingo helped raise money for the Horseheads Football Backers Club. Almost 200 people attended the Horseheads Elks Lodge to play more than 10 games of bingo in the hope of winning prizes. Local businesses donated about 100 items consisting of purses and raffle baskets to benefit the event.

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Horseheads native and Hollywood producer Linda L. Miller is scheduled to show a TV series called Navajo Highways on Sunday, March 30. The screening will take place at the Park Church in Elmira, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., featuring three episodes. Miller said that the TV series focuses on the history, culture, and language of the Navajo People. The characters featured in the series will be puppets and guest stars from where it was filmed in Utah.

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — The homeless campsite at the Lackawanna Rail Trail sits on state and private property in the town of Elmira. Sean Mickle, who owns around 33 acres of the property where some of the campsite sits, stated that the camp started to happen a couple of months ago which led to where it is now. Since 2020, Mickel has owned the property between I-86 and the Chemung River.

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — The city of Elmira is expected to remove the campsite in Elmira’s South Side after property owners failed to do it within their time limit. A majority of the trash and debris around Erie Street, Home Street, and in a wooded area near an elevated rail line, is on private property. It has still not yet been removed. Elmira City Manager Michael Collins said that the city code department cited the owners who were given 48 hours to clean up the camp.
