Aiming to highlight the "fun" in fundraiser, the Bakersfield Downtown Business Association will host the first Cheers for Charity on Saturday. This afternoon to "sip, savor and socialize" is a collaboration with United Way of Central Eastern California. Attendees will start at 1 p.m. at Wall Street Alley (between Chester and Eye streets), grabbing a bingo card to direct them on exploring downtown. Early stops just off the alley are Jerry Pizza & Pub, Guthrie's Alley Cat and Two Goats & The Goose.

One of downtown Bakersfield's most popular cultural gatherings returns this fall. Latination, a celebration of Latino artists, musicians and culture, returns on Sept. 5 and 6, courtesy of the Arts Council of Kern. "This festival is about more than art — it's about honoring the soul of our community," Jeanette Richardson, the council's executive director, said in a news release.
