The restaurant will be located in a popular district of a Central Alabama city. A Birmingham-based hot chicken joint is growing outside of the Magic City. Zebbie Carney, owner of Eugene's Hot Chicken, is expanding in the late third or early fourth quarter of this year to the state's capital city. The new location is downtown at 709 Commerce St. across from the convention center. It takes the 2,500-square-foot space left vacant by Seafood King.

A retailer that keeps the rural lifestyle front and center has opened a location just outside the metro area. Rural King opened its newest store in Jasper at 300 U.S. Highway 78. It took the roughly 90,000-square-foot space Kmart had inside the local mall. According to a release, the store was built with new and innovative features designed to enhance the shopping experience, including mobile and self-checkouts.

A growing gym franchise inked a deal to open a location in the recently closed AMC Classic Lee Branch 15 movie theater. The property at 801 Doug Baker Blvd. in Birmingham's Lee Branch shopping center will be renovated through a $14 million investment and become a Onelife Fitness.
