A recent auction of several vacant school buildings and empty lots proved disappointing for the Orleans Parish School Board: Only one of the six properties attracted a buyer. None of the others, including a historic art deco building on Carondelet Street downtown, even got a bid. The live auction, held April 30, was intended to help the cash-strapped school board begin the process of offloading dozens of pieces of surplus property that it has been carrying on its books for years.
