    Diver Kailee Payne closed out her collegiate career over the weekend at the NCAA Division III championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, and her second consecutive dual-national championship effort makes for a great local story for two reasons... One, Kailee – the NCAA Division III Diver of the Year, also for the second consecutive year -  is a senior at Ithaca College, and two, she is a graduate of Ithaca High.

    It can be fun to watch sports fans of... uh... shall we say, a certain age, wear the same wide-eyed look they wore 50 years ago when some larger-than-life figures were walking around Cornell's campus. For example, when Ed Marinaro damn near won the Heisman Trophy in 1971, and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, he was the biggest of the  Big Men on Campus.

    As I sat in the stands at Lynah Rink on Saturday night, I looked at Mike Schafer's expression as he watched his team put a 5-1 thumping on the Bulldogs of Yale to move on in the post-season, and I wondered if our 40-year “stalemate” would ever be resolved...  In 1984, I hosted a housewarming party at the home I had just completed, and I heard what sounded like a tractor coming up my long, steep driveway.
