MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - There is a one in eight chance that a woman in the U.S. develops brain cancer in her life. It’s the second leading cause of cancer death in women. On Wednesday, Wisconsin lawmakers were in the State Capitol to try to push forward a law to expand coverage for additional screenings. Gail’s Bill was presented, a piece of legislation that honors Gail Zeamer who passed last June to the deadly disease. In 2018, WMTV spoke with Zeamer about this bill.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the person found dead in Lake Monona as a Madison man. The agency said Collin Smith, 25, drowned in Lake Monona. The medical examiner pronounced Smith dead on May 23, and conducted a forensic examination on May 24. Smith’s family said he was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and that he was loved and admired by so many.

(WMTV) - A VFW Post in Edgerton honored local military members who died in service to our country by traveling to nine cemeteries and multiple events with their honor guard on Monday. “We are just grateful that we are still able to do it,” said Fred Falk, who is a member of the VFW Post 2708 Honor Guard.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A Florida man suspected of making threats to commit mass shootings was allegedly in contact with the teen behind the shooting late last year at Abundant Life Christian School, in Madison. A probable cause affidavit from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office states that suspect, Damien Allen, was talking to the 15-year-old Madison student, Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow, over social media.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Catholics around the world are mourning the death of Pope Francis, including communities in Madison. The funeral toll rang all day, every seven seconds, during what Bishop Donald Hying of Diocese of Madison said is a time for celebration in the church. “To pass from this world to the next in the immediacy of Easter speaks to the presence of hope. As Christians, we believe in the resurrection,” said Bishop Hying.
