FITCHBURG, Wis. (WMTV) - A loaded gun was found on a 21-year-old man accused of running away from a traffic stop last month in Fitchburg, the police department reported Friday. The police department recounted that officers pulled over a vehicle after 12:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19, near East Badger Road and Rimrock Road. Fitchburg Police Dept. said a passenger in the vehicle ran off, and officers chased him.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A trial was taken off the calendar for a Rock County man accused of killing his 8-year-old family member, online court records show Friday. Dayveon Lathrop appeared in Rock County court, where his attorney requested another competency hearing. A competency hearing was scheduled for July 15. Lathrop’s trial was originally scheduled to begin on July 28. Lathrop is accused of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Madison Police Department announced the launch of a proactive summer traffic initiative on Friday. MPD said the initiative serves to address dangerous driving behavior in the community. Drivers should expect to see officers out patrolling this summer. The announcement comes as MPD reported a crash that happened after 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Fish Hatchery Road and Emil Street.

Opening ceremonies got underway at 8:20 a.m., which included a flyover from the 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard. The ceremonial first tee shot was performed by 8-year-old Laine, who is a patient at American Family Children’s Hospital and is now cancer free.

SPRING GROVE, Wis. (WMTV) - An 88-year-old man died weeks after a Green County crash that happened in March, the Sheriff’s Office reported on Thursday. The Green Co. Sheriff’s Office had said the two-vehicle crash happened after 3 p.m. on March 24, at the intersection of State Highway 81 and County Highway T, in the Town of Spring Grove.
