Now, the open-air concert venue is tuning up for a new era, thanks to a grant that's funding a major face lift. A $1 million SPRINT grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce, funded through the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act, is fueling Azura's improvements.

Ho Huynh, 77, of Overland Park, held the rifle steady as he prepared for "Remembering Saigon," a commemorative event held Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the Don Bosco Community Center in Kansas City. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and the resulting mass exodus of South Vietnamese individuals, many of whom, including Huynh, settled in Kansas City. Huynh, who was a member of the South Vietnamese Army, was held for seven years in a "re-education" camp.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the ending of the Vietnam War. Kansas Citians gathered Sunday at the Don Bosco Community Center for a local commemoration for the soldiers and civilians who survived and those who lost their lives during the war. The event was hosted by the Vietnamese American Community of Greater Kansas City and local nonprofit Hella Good Deeds.

"I am working on a frock coat that I took out of the freezer about a month ago," Messinger said. "It's been frozen for 35 years," she explained. "It just looked kind of like a lump of hamburger."

More details about the 1587 Prime steakhouse from Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce continue to be revealed. We learned last week that the interior of the two-story steakhouse, at the Loews Kansas City Hotel at 1515 Wyandotte, will have some cool football touches and will open this summer. Earlier this month, the Las Vegas-based hospitality group Noble 33 announced it is looking to hire an executive chef for 1587 Prime. Now, there are two other job openings for the restaurant.
