FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A 2017 Carroll High School graduate is now teaching the English language in Japan. Miranda Bearman has taught in Fort Wayne’s sister city, Takaoka, for nine months. Takaoka is Fort Wayne’s longest-running sister city since 1976. The City of Fort Wayne sent WANE 15 a statement about its relationship with Takaoka. Fort Wayne is honored to be a sister city with Takaoka. Both cities strive to be good neighbors with a commitment to friendship and peace.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Spring brings rain and flowers, but also morel mushrooms. The 2025 morel mushroom hunting season has officially started in the Fort Wayne area. Morel mushrooms often grown in the woods near sycamore, elm and ash trees. Local morel mushroom hunter, Alex Babich, said the morel mushroom season goes north about 100 miles per week. “You can start earlier in the season down southern states and kind of moving up,” said Babich.

Out of a Jam is a local nonprofit that has been helping feed the greater Fort Wayne area, while helping individuals find a successful path. Paula Kaufman and her husband, Bernie, have a mission to provide food to people who might not know where their next meal is coming from. “When COVID hit, we knew that there was going to be a great need,” Paula said.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Women from all walks of life were celebrated Tuesday night at the 3rd annual Butterfly Gala, the largest fundraiser benefitting Redemption House. Redemption House is a faith-based network of transitional housing for women, serving as an alternative to incarceration. While living at the home, the women learn financial skills, job training, how to deal with addiction and more. They’re also expected to hold jobs throughout their stay.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – For over 160 years, the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne has been committed to making the city healthier, one person and family at a time. Tuesday, the Nexstar Charitable Foundation and WANE 15 donated $2,500 to help further their mission. The foundation’s donation will help fund the brand-new Natural Playscape area at the Parkview Family YMCA.
