    There have been 115 blazes this yearLast weekend, as we basked in temperatures hotter than Barcelona, dozens of firefighters battled two huge moor fires on the hills above Greater Manchester. Crews from the across the north west fought fierce flames in woodland off Woodhead Road in Glossop, and on land surrounding March Haigh Reservoir in Marsden, near to Denshaw. Just a day earlier another moorland blaze near Tor Hill in Haslingden, Lancs, was put out.

This will put it on a par with European hotspots in Spain and Greece and even the west coast of the USA.     The trial of a man accused of trying to kill an Army officer in uniform near a Kent barracks has been delayed due to his poor mental health, a court heard. Anthony Esan, 24, is accused of repeatedly stabbing married father-of-two Lieutenant Colonel Mark Teeton at Sally Port Gardens, in Gillingham near Brompton Barracks on July 23 last year. The serviceman, 47, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    A judo Olympian has appealed for help to find her brother, who police are "extremely worried" about after he went missing in Bristol. Lubjana Piovesana, 28, who competed for Team GB before switching to the Austrian team, says the next hours are "critical" in the search for her brother Luis Piovesana. Mr Piovesana, 26, was last seen at around 3am on Friday at Eastgate retail park having travelled there via a taxi from a venue in Little Ann Street, St Jude's, a 10-minute drive away.
