The Riverside City Council has added new vegetation management and more defensible space rules for some properties in an effort to mitigate growing wildfire risks. “Climate change, prolonged droughts, vegetation buildup and development in fire-prone areas” are contributing to elevated fire risks in the city, according to a presentation prepared by Riverside staff.

Southern California boxers Oscar De La Hoya and “Sugar” Shane Mosley began at small boxing events before turning into pros and ring legends. Similarly, a future star could have been fighting at the three-day Southern California State Amateur Boxing Championships in Perris.

A ranch-style home on Randwick Road in the Hillcrest neighborhood in Riverside burnt to the ground, leaving behind just the bottom half of burnt walls dripping with water and dark with scorch marks from a fire that was extinguished just hours before. The home of Gary Staddan, a 10-year resident on Randwick Road, is just four doors from that burnt house.

What would you expect from an evening at the Moreno Valley library called Family Fun? Family fun, of course. Each week the Moreno Valley Main Library, 25480 Alessandro Blvd., hosts Family Fun at 6 p.m. Thursdays and at 1 p.m. Saturdays. The Moreno Valley Mall Library also has a Family Fun event at 4 p.m. Saturdays. Fun means getting a chance to participate in a creative arts and crafts project, according to the library’s website. The program offers activities.
