As a journalist, Kathy Larkin chronicled many happenings, including fashion and exclusive gatherings for The Daily News, as well as bridal items, home furnishing and more for Newsday. The longtime Manhattan resident died June 1 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx after a recent cancer diagnosis, according to her niece, Anne Marie Larkin, who lives in Dutchess County. She was 88.

But two years after the U.S. Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges ruling in 2015 that all 50 states must allow same sex couples to marry, Stewart married the love of his life, Jim Riepe, before 160 guests at the Nissequogue Golf Club on May 28, 2017. "It just seemed like the natural thing to do," Riepe, 66, said of the decision to wed.

On a recent Saturday night, a halo and angel wings neon sign set a tight dance floor ablaze in a pink glow at a small queer bar off an Oceanside roadway. The signs of divine protection were all around Halo Nightclub that evening as regulars and curious newcomers ventured inside the LGBTQ+ bar. Inside, some enjoyed what they had as a DJ blared electronic music, while other patrons laughed, danced and watched the Knicks' loss in the NBA playoffs on TV.
