Almost 5,000 fans, entering the park for the first time, witnessed pregame festivities honoring the stadium’s beginnings, team introductions with pyrotechnics and a memorable rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner from the Upstate’s own Edwin McCain. As luck would have it, the ballgame matched the festivities.

    CLEMSON, S.C. (Clemson SID) – Freshman Marian Collins hit the game-tying solo home run in the sixth and hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the 2-1 upset victory against the No. 13/12 South Carolina Gamecocks (32-11) on Tuesday evening at McWhorter Stadium. The victory moved the Tigers to 35-11 on the year and led to the Palmetto Series presented by the South Carolina Education Lottery splitting, as both programs won their respective home game.

    COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team recorded its fourth shutout of the season as four Gamecock pitchers struck out seven batters in a 4-0 win over The Citadel Tuesday night (April 15) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park. Jackson Soucie, Tyler Pitzer, Ashton Crowther and Parker Marlatt allowed seven hits and walked just three batters. Pitzer earned the win, allowing a hit in 2.1 innings. Soucie was the starter, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and a walk.

    The North Greenville baseball program has 4 former Major League players on its coaching staff. Pitching coach, Darren Holmes spent 13 seasons in the big leagues with 8 teams and then was an MLB pitching coach for 12 additional years. Recruiting Coordinator and hitting coach, Micah Owings played 6 seasons in the majors as both a hitter and a pitcher. All that coaching experience has helped the Trailblazers get off to a 36-12 start including 12 straight wins.
