    The Spirit of Water-themed festival opened to the public at 10am on Tuesday (May 13) and will welcome guests until Sunday afternoon. Arrangements vary from a representation of A World Without Water to a journey along a River of Flowers. Another piece is made of chairs that priests used as stepping stones when the cathedral flooded in January 1915. One, called Under the Sea, was made with contributions from care homes, day centres and schools, coordinated by the cathedral's education team.

    Philip Scott, 35, now living in Acreman Street in Sherborne, Dorset, pleaded guilty to the offence at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Monday (May 12). The assault took place at Scott’s home in Ludgershall on December 29, 2024. During the hearing, magistrates were shown photographs of extensive bruising on the victim’s arms.

    Injured cat Maisie had to be put down after an Alsatian grabbed her in its teeth on October 2 last year. The woman said she was left “dripping with blood” from “deep puncture wounds” on her thumb – but was initially unsure if she was bitten by the dog or cat, she said in an initial statement. She later claimed she knew it was a dog bite, saying the Alsatian hurt her by gripping her hand and “shaking its head aggressively.” The dog that attacked Maisie belongs to Jordan Fitzpatrick, 26.

    Ashley Sherred, 33, of Southampton Road, was arrested in connection with a “serious collision” on Pinewood Road on Saturday (May 10). The ambulance service told police that a man in his 40s was hit by a car on the pavement, suffering serious leg injuries. He remains in hospital.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, off Marlborough Road, has problems including a leaking roof that would be expensive to repair. The 1960s church also contained asbestos until it was safely removed in 2024.
