Scalise, a Republican, ran for the post in 2022. He finished first in the voting in a four-way race in the Republican Party primary but lost in the runoff election by 18 votes to current County Judge Patrick Deakins. Deakins has not formally announced his decision on running for another term.

Richard Copeland, 55, was arrested Tuesday in connection with video voyeurism. He was being held Friday in the Washington County Detention Center on $150,000 bond.
