BENTONVILLE -- Grant Hardin's prison escape has opened old wounds for those victimized by his crimes as well as those who worked in law enforcement when he was convicted of them. Hardin, 56, escaped from the North Central Unit in Calico Rock around 2:55 p.m. May 25, according to Arkansas Department of Corrections spokesman Rand Champion. He was serving a 30-year prison sentence for the murder of James Appleton and had also pleaded guilty in 2019 to the 1997 rape of a Rogers schoolteacher.
