On Saturday, Mitchell climbed Colorado’s highest summit, Mount Elbert, and on Sunday he became the winner of the 44th annual Steamboat Marathon. Mitchell, a 26 year old ultra runner originally from Minnesota, fell in love with the long distance running community as a senior in college. Since then, he has raced in the Leadville 100, Boston Marathon, New York City Marathon, among countless others.

    Rodeo cowboys have to ride their bull for eight seconds before getting bucked off. Most rafters lasted roughly that same amount of time in C-Hole during the Raft Rodeo, part of the 45th annual Yampa River Festival on Saturday. One rafting crew stood out above the rest during the competition, a trio of local high school students who showed their competitors, the crowd and C-Hole itself that they were made for surfing the wave.

    Sidney Barbier, a Steamboat Springs native and University of Denver Nordic skier, has been named a finalist for the 2025 Honda Inspiration Award by the Collegiate Women’s Sports Awards. The Honda Inspiration Award is given to a collegiate female student-athlete who has overcome physical or emotional adversity while working toward a return to athletics. It has been awarded for 37 years. Barbier, 22, suffered from health challenges due to nutcracker syndrome for nearly seven years.

    The Yampa River Festival , Steamboat Springs’ traditional kick-off to summer, celebrates its 45th annual rendition this week. The festival, held Thursday to Sunday, is hosted by Friends of the Yampa and honors the Yampa River and its many offerings to river recreators in Northwest Colorado. The festival begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with the State of the Yampa Address at Bud Werner Memorial Library.
