Lincoln Police are investigating a collision between an LSO cruiser and a bicyclist at 9th and K Street just after 5:00 Thursday afternoon. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says the preliminary investigation shows it was a low speed collision and the motorcyclist suffered minor injuries. “The initial investigation found the deputy was approaching a red light at the intersection from the west, preparing to turn south onto 9th street ,” Vollmer says.

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a shooting around 5:30 last Sunday morning near 3rd and ‘H’ Streets that wounded a 36-year-old man. “A warrant for first-degree assault has been issued for Elyssia Ochoa, she’s 32-years of age,” LPD sergeant Chris Vollmer says. Vollmer says Ochoa was arrested in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Catholic church has it’s first American Pope. Cardinal Robert Prevost was born in Chicago and spent many years doing missionary work in Peru. He will be known as Pope Leo XIV and many have expressed shock and surprise that the Cardinals chose him after just two days of voting. “I was very surprised that the cardinals would chose an American,” says Bishop James Conley of the Diocese of Lincoln.

Governor Jim Pillen ceremoniously signed LB317 Wednesday morning that creates the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy and Environment. The bill combines the Department of Environment and Energy and the Department of Natural Resources. Pillen says one of the significant focuses of the new agency will be preserving and enhancing the state’s water resources. “Water is our life blood, and our pot of gold is the Ogallala Aquifer,” Pillen says.

The FBI has wrapped up a five-day nationwide operation to identify, track and arrest child predators in coordination with all 55 field offices across the country. Last week the FBI arrested 205 people and rescued 115 children across the country during Operation Restore Justice.
