Five teenagers are in custody following a wild ride in western Nebraska early Sunday morning. Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas says troopers were made aware that the five teens s were reportedly missing from a juvenile facility in Wyoming and were believed to be traveling eastbound through Nebraska in a stolen vehicle. “Troopers then learned that the group was believed to have stolen another vehicle in North Platte and was traveling together in both stolen vehicles,” Thomas says.

Starting Tuesday Lincoln Police will begin enforcing an ordinance passed by the City Council last month that allows them to impound vehicles involved in street racing and reckless driving. “We’ve all seen firsthand the impact of too many drivers speeding, causing noise disturbances, impacting local businesses and, most importantly, endangering public safety,” says Public Information Officer Erika Thomas. Drivers will get a written notice for the first violation.

A frightening ordeal for a 17-year-old Lincoln girl on Saturday night. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says she was assaulted after getting into a minor traffic accident near 21st and ‘K’ Streets around 7:00. “She attempted to exchange information, but the driver demanded cash,” Thomas says. She eventually left the area, and the vehicle followed her with three unknown people inside.” Thomas says  she pulled over again and was attacked and assaulted by the three people from the vehicle.

A 46-year-old Lincoln woman was arrested Saturday afternoon after an incident inside a home near 58th and Huntington Avenue.  LPD Lt. Jason Goodwin says they were told Lori Leafty had threatened her roommate prior to firing one round from a handgun. “Officers contacted Lori in her vehicle, attempting to leave the scene,” Goodwin says. “Lori was cooperative and taken into custody without incident. No one was physically harmed during this incident.”Goodwin says a gun was recovered from the home.

LFR crews responded to house fire near S. 6th and Sumner Streets around 2:15 Friday afternoon. “The owner was contacted and does not use the house. No one lives there, it’s used for storage,” says Public Information Officer MJ Lierman. She says it’s an underground house and crews treated like a basement fire, which can spread quickly. Crews remained outside the home to fight the flames. Lierman says firefighters checked to make sure no one was staying there.
