NORTH ALABAMA (WHNT) — A line of severe storms raced through the Tennessee Valley Saturday afternoon, producing damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rain. The storms moved through the area from Noon to just before 4 pm. The damaging winds led to wind damage in Colbert County to Jackson County. Numerous areas reported power outages as well. Rain totals ranged from 0.50 to over 2 inches. A second round of heavy rain and isolated storms is forecast to move through the area Saturday night.

MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — A ribbon cutting was held for the grand opening of the new Creekstone Academy in Madison. The new preschool said its goal is to help its students thrive in innovation and imagination. According to its website, the preschool will serve children from six weeks to five years old. The school will offer before-school and after-school child care for children aged five to 12 years old and host summer camps to better help its students grow and learn.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The event venue at Ditto Landing is one step closer to completion. During a Madison County Commission meeting on April 23, the commission awarded a contract to build the venue to Lee Builders. Plans for the event venue were first announced back in October 2023. Madison County and Huntsville city leaders estimated the cost to be about $10 million.
