More than 150 positions at Independence Health System have been, or will be, cut since the start of the year, including 81 employees who will be impacted this week, according to the health system. The health system’s “cost containment effort” prompts the elimination of 151 positions — the equivalent of 122 full-time employees or about 2% of system’s 7,300-person team, according to a statement issued Wednesday, April 9.

Multiple fire departments responded late Tuesday evening, March 11, to a fire at the site of a gas well on the 200 block of Cheeseman Road in Muddy Creek Township. The fire departments worked into the early hours Wednesday to extinguish the blaze with foam trailers and multiple tanker trucks. The report came in at around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, and a fire department said it was a working fire when the crew arrived on the scene.

The Department of Government Efficiency will save $749,773 with the cancellation of three annual leases for Office of Personnel Management locations in Butler County, according to the department’s website on Wednesday, March 5. Two leases related the Boyers location and another lease related to an East Butler location were included on a list of 748 lease terminations recently posted to the department’s website.

Police charged a Butler man Tuesday, March 4, after he allegedly performed sexual acts on a child. Dennis Emmett Goodwine II, 23, was charged with one felony count each of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13, and misdemeanor indecent assault of a minor related to an alleged Sept. 6 incident in Butler. Butler and Butler Township police said they received a Childline report alleging Goodwine had sexually abused a girl.
