    ISLE ROYALE, Mich. (WZMQ) – At approximately 1:45 pm on Thursday, the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Isle Royale National Park about a drowning. According to a press release, the diver that drowned from from a charter dive boat. The incident happened while they were diving on the north side of Isle Royale. The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the National Park in the investigation.

(WZMQ) – The City of Negaunee announced that they have learned that the area of Old Town that was previously approved for residential development is actually protected more than previously thought. In a press release, the city said that they recently learned that the 315-acre property is encumbered by an agreement with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and is restricted from all non-recreation development forever.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Northern Michigan University Athletics has announced that head hockey coach Grant Potulny will be stepping down to pursue a position at the professional hockey level and athletic director Rick Comley will be taking over as interim head coach, effective as of today. A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Associate head coach Byron Pool and assistant coach Nick Peruzzi have also stepped down to accept coaching positions elsewhere.

    ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two people have been arrested following a stabbing that took place at the Granada Bar in Escanaba early Saturday morning. At approximately 12:24 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, officers from the Escanaba Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the back lounge area of the bar for a report of a male victim who had been stabbed. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, who had been stabbed in the abdomen resulting in serious injuries.
