PARK CITY, Utah – Park City-based Pacific Group Resorts, announced they have purchased a majority interest in Powderhorn ski area on the Grand Mesa of Colorado near the town of Palisade. The previous owners were Colorado’s Gart family and the ski industry pioneer Andy Daly. Pacific Group Resorts, Inc. (PRGI), led by chairman Vern Greco—a former executive at Park City, Steamboat, and Purgatory ski resorts—welcomes approximately 1 million skier visits annually.

With its world-famous Mighty Five—Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands—Utah has the third-most flagship national parks of any state, behind California and Alaska. While these parks get the most attention, they are supplemented by a range of other locations designated for National Park Service protection and interpretation. Some of these parks are older than the National Park Service itself, which was created in 1916.

PARK CITY, Utah — On Nov. 1, the Intermountain Professional Photographers Association held its annual print competition at Pictureline in Salt Lake City. Three Park City photographers received top awards. David Winegar received the “Nature and Wildlife Image of the Year” award for his print “Snowstorm Sheet Music.” This image of birds clinging to branches was taken during a fierce snowstorm in Wanship.
