HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – Juniata College is taking the next step towards the future as the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing officially approved the college’s new Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. The new program is set to launch in the Fall of 2025. The college is aiming to address critical nursing shortages in Central Pennsylvania as well as create a program that readies students for life after college.

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Residents in Centre County are experiencing something that only occurs every 17 years. Residents can see Periodical cicadas, which are insects classified in the order Hemiptera, along with aphids, leafhoppers, and shield bugs. Many species of insects are mistakenly referred to as “bugs,” but only hemipterans are considered to be “true bugs.” Adult periodical cicadas are black from above and orange underneath.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — The 55th annual Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games are getting set to kick off in State College. Over 2,000 athletes and 750 coaches will travel to Penn State for three days of competition in athletics, equestrian, basketball, golf, gymnastics, softball, swimming, and tennis. This is a weekend to compete, have fun, and build lifelong friendships.

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Filling classrooms with teachers in Pennsylvania is becoming more difficult every year, and many organizations are stepping up to try and fill vacancies. One organization is the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). The PSEA represents 178,000 education professionals in Pennsylvania. Assistant Director of Communications Chris Lilienthal said the amount of decline in new teachers is a crisis.

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Centre County Office of Aging announced that the 2025 Farmers’ Market Voucher Program will soon start distributing vouchers. The Office of Aging recently announced that the vouchers were originally scheduled for Monday, June 2, but were delayed until further notice due to the funding delays. The annual summer program known as the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is run by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA).
