Celebrated comedian, actor and writer Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, has been laid to rest in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. The 31-year-old Dibakwane passed away on Friday last week. His family has revealed that he struggled with depression for years. They say they pray that this tragedy reminds people of the need to look out for each other and seek professional help where necessary. His uncle Joe Seoloane says they will advocate for mental health to keep Dibakwane’s memory alive.

Procurement and regulation issues are blamed for the poor performance of the Kendal Power Station in Ogies, Mpumalanga. Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa visited the station a few days after power utility Eskom implemented load shedding. Ramokgopa visited the station to assess its current performance level amongst others and expressed disappointment with the performance of some stations in the country. Kendal Power Station was one of the best performing power stations.

The Democratic Alliance in Mpumalanga says crime prevention wardens, who were deployed in various police stations last year, are underutilized. The party says instead of assisting in fighting crime, the wardens sit under trees or wash police vehicles. The DA is now seeking answers from the Mpumalanga Department of Community, Safety, Security and Liaison regarding this programme. It was lauded as a programme to assist in curbing crime, with 1,200 young people employed as crime prevention wardens.

Four people have died following a thunderstorm in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. The storm which was coupled with hail and strong winds, damaged over 500 houses and schools in the area. Walls have collapsed and roofs of houses were blown away. At least 12 villages in Nkomazi were severely affected and three municipalities in the province were also hit hard by the severe storm.

Twenty-four pupils from the Enzani Primary School in Matsulu outside Mbombela, Mpumalanga have been rushed to hospital after they complained of abdominal pains and vomiting. It is alleged that the pupils consumed some snacks they bought from a spaza shop. Provincial Education Department spokesperson Gerald Sambo says they are concerned about incidents of food poisoning at schools. He says the are awaiting a report from the Health Department which will confirm what caused the children to fall sick.
