CLEARFIELD — The Progressland area was hit with a quick burst of thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon as wind gusts in the mid-60 mph range caused plenty of damage and power outages. According to Aaron Tyburski from the National Weather Service’s State College office, temperatures were in the high 70s and low 80s as a cold front then began moving into the area that first started in the western part of the state. “As the front came through, it set off a line of thunderstorms,” Tyburski said.

CLEARFIELD — The Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library held a celebration on April 10 to announce the retirement of Radar, a 9-year-old German Shepherd, from the library’s PAWS for Reading program. Library Director Lisa Coval said about seven years ago, they started the program that allows young kids to improve reading skills reading aloud.

CURWENSVILLE — A Curwensville family is hosting a benefit 5K walk/run to help raise awareness for infertility. DJ and Anyssa Caldwell are holding the “1 in 6 infertility awareness 5K” on May 10 at 10 a.m. at Irvin Park in Curwensville. Its name derives from the fact that one in six couples or women have issues with getting pregnant — as one in four also have trouble staying pregnant.

CLEARFIELD — During Tuesday’s brief meeting of the Clearfield County Commissioners, Chairman Tim Winters mentioned the commissioners are working with those involved in regards to the potential closure of the Quehanna Boot Camp in Karthaus. Winters said a public hearing, officially deemed a “listening session,” with the state Department of Corrections will be held today at 5 p.m. and is located at the Community Alliance Church, 34136 Frenchville Karthaus Hwy., Karthaus.
