Veganuary is over for another year, and according to the global organization—which supports people all over the world to give up animal products for the month of January—it’s been another major success. The campaign has been steadily growing in popularity since it was launched in the UK in 2013 by founders Jane Land and Matthew Glover. In 2017, it had around 50,000 sign-ups. By 2023, this had soared to more than 700,000, according to the organization.

It’s been a difficult start to the year for Los Angeles. There are three wildfires currently burning (Palisades, Eaton, and Auto) across the region, and seven more have been contained. The fires have currently left almost 90,000 households without power and forced more than 150,000 people to evacuate their homes. Right now, 27 people are thought to have lost their lives. In the midst of tragedy, a powerful sense of community is shining through.

This time, she’s opened her plant-based bar concept, Bar Vegan, alongside another Slutty Vegan outpost in Baltimore Peninsula, a retail and restaurant destination located in South Baltimore, MD.

It’s been 30 years since World Vegan Day was celebrated for the first time. The idea came from Louise Wallis, former president of The Vegan Society, who created World Vegan Day to help commemorate the organization’s 50th birthday. Just as it did then, today, the holiday–which is acknowledged by activists, chefs, and compassionate vegans globally on November 1 every year–aims to raise awareness of the plant-based lifestyle and the health, environmental, and ethical benefits that come with it.
