PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - The Macy's in Center City officially closed its doors for good Sunday evening. Hundreds of people popped by the historic Wanamaker building to say goodbye to the department store and its iconic features. The Center City Macy's opened in 2006. In January, the company announced the store was one of 66 being shuttered. Most products were already stripped from the shelves, as everything must go - everything.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - Powerful storms slammed the Philadelphia region on Wednesday with plenty of heavy rain and strong winds. The severe weather affected planes, trains and cars, and knocked out power in some areas. High wind gusts out by Philadelphia International Airport clocked in at over 50 miles per hour, while in New Jersey and most of Pennsylvania, peak speeds were in the 40s. Earlier threats of thunderstorms prompted an FAA-issued ground stop for flights due for PHL.

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) - An unvaccinated child in Montgomery County has contracted the measles - the first confirmed case in the region and Pennsylvania this year. The child contracted the highly contagious virus while on an international trip and returned to the area last week, according to the Montgomery County Office of Public Health.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) - Firefighters from 68 companies, mostly volunteers, worked for more than 12 hours through Monday night to beat back a fire at the massive SPS Technologies building in Jenkintown. A shelter-in-place is in effect for neighbors within a one-mile radius, and township and borough emergency officials heightened the alert, for residents within five blocks of the site, to a voluntary evacuation advisory.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - A 38-year-old Philadelphia police officer is recovering from a gunshot wound after a traffic stop gone wrong Tuesday night. Police are investigating the incident, which happened just before 9 p.m.Two highway patrol officers stopped a car at 22nd Street and Lehigh Avenue. During the traffic stop, police said, the driver fled and crashed at 23rd Street and Indiana Avenue.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - Tuesday night's winter snowfall was a storm of opposites. It dumped more snow to the south, along the Jersey Shore, and much less snow to the north. Nearly 8 inches fell in Cape May. About 2.5 inches were recorded by Philadelphia International Airport, and just an inch in Furlong, Bucks County. According to the National Weather Service, Atlantic City got 7.6 inches of snow. The Dover Air Force Base in Kent, Delaware recorded a decent amount too: 6.3 inches.

The city was already abuzz all day long but became electrified after the Eagles dominated the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX, bringing home another championship title for the second time in franchise history. Thousands swarmed the streets, from Center City to the Northeast, jumping, cheering and chanting for their beloved Birds.

At the corner of Cottman and Bustleton avenues, neighborhood residents have put together a touching memorial with a mural by artist Roberto Márquez at the center, on which people can sign their names and write messages.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - The state of Delaware is mourning a figure skating coach and two young skaters who were among the 67 people killed Wednesday night when their passenger jet collided with an army helicopter at Reagan National Airport. The American Airlines flight was carrying a number of competitive figure skaters and coaches from Wichita, Kansas, where the U.S. Figure Skating Championships National Development Camp had been held.
