A plan for the future of Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford has been further fine-tuned and includes retaining and replacing the boardwalk, widening the lake loop, and adding two permanent stages, a multi-purpose arts building, a nine-hole disc golf course and an off-leash dog area. Council voted on Tuesday (May 27) to send the draft Mill Lake Park Master Plan to the third of four stages – community consultation – before the document is finalized.

One of three men charged with the 2022 murder of a senior Abbotsford couple has fired his lawyer, further delaying his trial. BC Prosecution Service spokesperson Damienne Darby told The Abbotsford News that Khushveer Toor discharged his lawyer on April 30. Toor’s trial was slated to begin on May 20 on two charges of first-degree murder related to the killings of Arnold and Joanne De Jong. A new date has not yet been set.

A new law that will disqualify MLAs from holding another local elected office will trigger a byelection in Abbotsford. The Eligibility to Hold Public Office Act passed third reading on Tuesday (May 27). It is expected to receive royal assent on Thursday and become law. The law will prevent MLAs from continuing to serve in local elected offices – such as city council or school board – after their election to the legislature.

Two youths who were arrested following the fatal stabbing Sunday (May 25) of Billy Ledoux of Abbotsford have been cleared of any involvement, according to investigators. In a press release on Tuesday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said it has confirmed that the two youths arrested near the scene “were not responsible for the stabbing and have been released to their parents.” Sgt.
