In response, the city is looking at measures to penalize regular offenders such as suspending their curbside recycling services and raising fines from $100 to $500.

An Abbotsford man who has twice been charged in relation to fatal collisions recently had an alcohol-related charge downgraded. Kerry Froese was charged in November with refusing to comply with the demand for a breath sample, but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of driving without due care and attention. He was sentenced June 2 in Abbotsford provincial court to a $1,000 fine. Sgt.

Police recently recovered $500,000 in stolen property from two properties in Abbotsford and Mission. Sgt. Paul Walker, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department, said the investigation began after police noticed a 67 per cent increase in property crime on Sumas Prairie between Jan. 1 and May 1, compared to the same period in 2024. Walker said investigators identified several prolific property offenders who they believed were involved in the surge in criminal activity.

A plan for the future of Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford has been further fine-tuned and includes retaining and replacing the boardwalk, widening the lake loop, and adding two permanent stages, a multi-purpose arts building, a nine-hole disc golf course and an off-leash dog area. Council voted on Tuesday (May 27) to send the draft Mill Lake Park Master Plan to the third of four stages – community consultation – before the document is finalized.
