After leading the Emily K Center through nearly two decades of service to Durham youth, Chief Executive Officer Adam Eigenrauch will step down from his role on June 30, the organization announced today. The center’s Board of Directors has appointed Executive Director Dr. Valerie Anderson to succeed Eigenrauch, effective July 1.

FHI 360, the Durham-based nonprofit known for its global work in health, education, and human development, will lay off 483 U.S.-based employees, including 144 in North Carolina. The force reduction takes effect May 2 and comes in response to recent cuts in federal funding and the termination of several government-backed projects.

Saving Nature, a conservation nonprofit headquartered in Durham, has secured 865 acres in Colombia’s Western Andes, one of the most biologically rich and threatened regions on the planet. The newly protected land includes more than 600 acres of intact cloud forest and 247 acres that will be restored with more than 16,000 native trees. This expansion of the Mesenia-Paramillo Nature Reserve is a major step toward protecting endangered species and reconnecting fragmented ecosystems in the high Andes.
