A 26-year-old Española woman has been charged in connection with her 15-month-old daughter’s death from an apparent fentanyl overdose on April 1. New Mexico State Police Agent Mario Villanueva charged Ariana Vigil with one count each of child abuse resulting in death and possession of a controlled substance. If convicted, Vigil faces a sentence of up to life in prison on the child abuse charge.

A woman who sued the Hoy Recovery Center last year, after she alleged she was raped by a man in the program in 2022, has dismissed her lawsuit after reaching a settlement. The woman, a mother of three, is only referred to as “Jane Doe” in court documents. She alleged she was repeatedly raped while in the program by a man with a lengthy criminal history for drunk driving and domestic violence. The settlement was for an undisclosed sum.
Santa Fe Man Surrenders to Deputies

A Santa Fe man, who allegedly threatened his mother’s neighbor with a knife and told him he was going to kill him, surrendered to Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies as they were on the precipice of breaking into the apartment he was holed up in. Deputy Joey Graves charged Ricky Martinez, 30, on Feb. 23, with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Dulce Man Faces up to 10 Years for Assault

A Dulce man pleaded guilty to two counts of assault of an intimate partner by strangulation and faces up to 10 years in prison. Chalmers Dedios, 32, pleaded guilty to the two charges on Feb. 3 in federal district court in Albuquerque. He has been held without bail by federal authorities since Jan. 8, on the orders of Magistrate Judge Steven Yarbrough, but was held for nearly a year before that by tribal authorities, according to federal court records.
Dulce Man Sentenced for Attack on Wife

A Dulce man will spend a maximum of two years and three months in federal prison when he is sentenced in May for attacking his wife in 2021. Orlyn Vigil, 48, is set to be sentenced May 13 on one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, a vehicle, in federal district court in Albuquerque. Vigil pleaded guilty to the charge on Feb. 5. According to his plea deal, prosecutors dropped two other charges. The plea deal set a cap on his sentence at two years and three months.

Federal prosecutors want a 38-year-old Dulce man to say, on the record and in front of a judge, that he is rejecting a proffered plea deal in a case where he is accused of raping his 14-year-old niece. A federal grand jury indicted Cisco Cruzito Pinto on two counts of aggravated sexual abuse on March 12, 2024, after he was charged with one count of the same in February, by FBI Agent Travis Kosir.

PROVIDENCE – The Diocese of Providence's newest bishop got the call as he was driving down Route 153 in Maryland on his way back from celebrating Mass at a Boy Scout camp. After confirming that he was, indeed alone, the Most Rev. Bruce Alan Lewandowski learned that Pope Francis has named him Providence's newest bishop, succeeding Bishop Richard G. Henning, who was named archbishop of Boston in August. "I cried," Lewandowski said.
