With Election Day next week, you may be asking yourself, "How do I avoid the lines and ballot box but still vote?"If you won't be able to cast your ballot on Nov. 5, consider voting early during business hours in the lead-up to the election. If you'd like to vote early, go to your town hall or polling location. There, you'll be asked if you are a registered voter and to present a valid photo ID. The voter registration deadline for the general election was Oct. 6, 2024.

While the sights and sounds of last week’s fireworks are still fresh in your minds, please take a moment to consider what will happen two years from now. On July 4, 2026, our nation will celebrate its 250th anniversary. In 2021, the General Assembly established a RI250 commission to be administered by the office of the secretary of state. This group consists of 30 community members, whose mission is to oversee Rhode Island’s participation in this national celebration.

Gov. Dan McKee has ordered that the U.S. and Rhode Island ftate flags be flown at half-staff, "in recognition of the lives lost to the Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel."The flags should be lowered immediately and remain lowered through Sunset on Saturday, Oct. 14. According to the press release issued by the governor's office, "Rhode Island stands with the people of Israel and condemns Hamas’ terrorist attacks. Make no mistake – such atrocities are deserving of condemnation worldwide.
