The Providence Journal and United Way of Rhode Island have partnered to highlight the state's nonprofits. Each week, a nonprofit identified by United Way will be spotlighted in the Providence Sunday Journal, and the United Way will share how it supports that organization. This week, we feature the Community Libraries of Providence, which is dedicated to ensuring the continued operation of nine community libraries. We asked library director Cheryl Space to tell us more about the association.

The libraries measure success through usage statistics, community feedback, and anecdotal reports. Recent accomplishments include expanded library hours, high checkout rankings, and successful community engagement initiatives. The Farm Coast Art & Garden Ramble takes place Saturday in Tiverton, featuring local artists, a garden market, and live music. Newport Sings hosts a fundraising event on Sunday, while the Touro Park Summer Concert Series kicks off with the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble. The Canine Couture Show returns to Rough Point on Saturday, benefiting the Newport Restoration Foundation and the Potter League for Animals. Maybe this will be the weekend there's no rain. Maybe.

High schools across the state have been asked to submit nominations and a new round of nominees and voting will be made available every Monday and close the following Thursday.
