    SUFFOLK, Va. — In a collaborative effort to assist families facing transportation challenges, Suffolk Public Schools has joined forces with the city’s transit service. Starting this year, Suffolk Transit will provide the school division with 200 free all-day bus passes that can be used on any route throughout the year.     NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD — Norfolk Naval Shipyard went into lockdown for about 20 minutes Thursday after a firearm was found on the shipyard and, in a separate incident, a shipyard employee made threats against their coworkers, according to shipyard leaders. Around 8:30 a.m., a firearm was found inside a private contractor's vehicle in the shipyard's industrial area, according to shipyard officials.

    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Ahead of Tropical Storm Helene's expected landfall , members of Virginia Task Force 2 are heading down to Orlando, Florida. The members have already geared up and left Hampton Roads, according to Virginia Beach officials. Eight left on Tuesday morning and 80 more from the group are leaving Tuesday evening. The task force is one of 28 FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Teams across the country and they have responded to numerous disasters.
