Two Ventura County sheriff’s deputies face criminal charges after an off-duty scuffle at a Camarillo bar and restaurant that sent a security guard to the hospital. The March 30 arrests of Dylan Davis, 33, and Anthony Malagon, 27, were not made public until Sheriff Jim Fryhoff addressed the matter two weeks later. In that April 16 news release, authorities said some sort of domestic incident happened at El Rey Cantina on Ventura Boulevard around 12:50 in the morning.

Culminating a two-day sentencing hearing that ended April 15 with a member of the audience rushing toward the defendant, Ventura County Superior Court Judge Julia Snyder delivered the maximum allowable sentence.

Ground zero for the City of Camarillo’s new initiative to provide permanent housing for the homeless is a city-owned lot on Arneill Road with a brake shop on one side, an oil and lube center on the other. The plan, in partnership with the nonprofit Project Hope, is to provide about 30 people living in motorhomes on a stretch of Pleasant Valley Road with a path to self-sufficiency. Many of the individuals are employed or receive benefits but cannot afford permanent housing.
