    Ventura County has a new public health officer. Dr. Uldine Castel, who has served as the tuberculosis controller for Ventura County Public Health for the last 15 years, took over the post on Jan. 20. Dr. Robert Levin, the county’s previous health czar, retired last June from the post he held since 1998. Levin directed the county’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, receiving both praise and criticism from county residents.

    Ventura County Supervisor Jeff Gorell wants to take a hard look at doing away with Southern California Edison in Ventura County and creating a not-for-profit municipal utility district. During the Jan. 14 Board of Supervisors meeting, Gorell said he’s been researching the idea for over a year and the timing of his proposal was not related to anger he and many others are currently expressing against Edison over recent Public Safety Power Shutoffs.

    Ventura County has a new public health health officer. Castel has served as family physician and chief medical officer at Primary Medical Group, providing comprehensive care for patients of all age.

The Camarillo City Council had made their final selection on a map for future council elections. It was a slightly altered version of a citizen drawn map selected at the last meeting. It will not force any incumbent councilmembers to run against each other
