WASHINGTON (AP) - A new humanitarian organization that has U.S. backing to take over aid delivery to starving civilians in Gaza said Wednesday that it expects to begin operations before the end of the month - after what it describes as key agreements from Israeli officials. A statement from the group, called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, identified several U.S. military veterans, former humanitarian coordinators and security contractors that it said would lead the delivery effort.

WATERBURY - An 11-year-old bicyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a motorist, according to Waterbury police. The crash occurred at around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Old Colony Road, Waterbury police Lt. Ryan Bessette said. The motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, Bessette said. Bessette said the victim "was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment."The investigation remains ongoing, Bessette said.

GLASTONBURY - Two residents of a Margaret Lane house were displaced by a fire that broke out Tuesday night, an official said. Dispatchers received reports of the fire in the 40 block of Margaret Lane around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, Glastonbury Fire Chief Michael Thurz said. Light smoke was coming from the house's front door when crews arrived, Thurz said, but the fire was found in the rear of the house and quickly put out by crews.

NORTH HAVEN - A New Haven police sergeant who reported a take-home police vehicle stolen from her apartment building parking lot in North Haven had locked the Ford Explorer and had the key with her, according to an arrest warrant for the suspect in the theft. WATERBURY - A Wilby High School student who had an unloaded firearm in their possession was taken into custody Wednesday, according to officials. Waterbury Public Schools Interim Superintendent Darren Schwartz said the high school and North End Middle School were placed in lockdown after a "student reported seeing a possible weapon on the bus."The firearm was confiscated from a student by the school resource officer, Schwartz said.
