    Thanks to recent precipitation, the fire danger level in the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now low. At this time, all fire bans and restrictions have been rescinded for the GPFA, but fire restrictions remain in place for both the City and County. However, Alberta Wildfire does want residents to still follow safe burning practices as wildfires can still spread, such as the soak, stir, soak again method when putting out a blaze.

    OTTAWA - Canada Post says it has reached a contract deal with its second-largest union while negotiations continue with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. The Crown corporation says the new collective agreement with the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association comes after 18 months of negotiations, the same span of time it's been in talks with CUPW. The postal service says the agreement with the CPAA covers about 8,500 employees, who mostly manage post offices in rural Canada.

    The County of Grande Prairie says they expect today (Monday, June 9) to be another challenging one for combating the growth of the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire. The blaze is said to have grown significantly overnight, reaching an estimated 21,675 hectares in size, however, the evacuation order, as well as the alert area, have remained the same.

    Canada Post is trying to make things easier for residents displaced due to ongoing wildfire evacuations. While evacuated, Swan Hills residents will have their mail redirected to the Whitecourt Post Office on 51 Avenue. Residents can visit the station between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays with a valid piece of ID to pick up their mail.

    The County of Grande Prairie has now issued an evacuation order for residents living north of Township Road 710 to Township Road 740, east of the British Columbia/Alberta border, to Range Road 130. Residents have 30 minutes to evacuate their homes, gather personal belongings, medications, pets and supplies. County residents who have not registered their livestock with the County's Livestock Emergency Response Plan (LERP) should call 780-532-9727 as soon as possible.
