A province-wide Alberta Emergency Alert system test will be conducted today at 1:55 p.m. (Wednesday, May 7). The Alberta government says this is being done as part of Emergency Preparedness Week, and the test will be broadcast on TV, radio, websites, social media and compatible phones. According to the province, these tests are important after the recent wildfires in the Peace region; Deer Ridge Estates fire and the Sturgeon Lake First Nation fire.

Grande Prairie City Council talked about several things, including the sports dome and tax changes for large apartment projects at its meeting on Monday. More money for sports domeCouncil approved an amendment to its budget to allocate a new total of $16.9 million for the new sports dome planned for north Grande Prairie in the Trader Ridge area. Administration says the cost estimates based on the recently completed request for proposals process left a shortfall in funding of around $3.1 million.

Peace Regional RCMP are asking for the public's help with locating a 61-year-old man. Darin Walter Overholt was last seen in the Peace River area on April 29, around 11 p.m. on 100 Avenue in Peace River. Another possible sighting was reported on May 3 at 11:30 a.m., around 100 Street.
