    E.L. Crossley Secondary School had only been open a few years when David Pihach first came through its doors. Things were different back in 1966. Crossley had a football program and Pihach found himself on the gridiron for all five years he attended the Hwy. 20 school. There was a dress code in place that forbade students wearing jeans or sporting long hair. “It was a new school,” Pihach said of the campus, which had opened in September 1963 with 600 students.

    Not only is it now officially summer, but it is also construction season in Pelham. The Town has recently begun its annual road rehabilitation program, which will continue through to Aug. 12. Construction will occur daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. “This year’s annual road rehab work is a big step forward in improving Pelham’s roadways,” said Jason Marr, the Town’s Director of Public Works. “It is challenging when the freeze-and-thaw cycle creates such impacts to the road network.

    It was a joyous occasion on Saturday morning, as the restored Beaverdams Church on Marlatts Road was officially opened for business. When the Friends of Beaverdams Church (FOBC) took possession of the 193-year-old church in 2014, it needed some TLC. And little did they know then that the efforts to restore the church would be ongoing for the next 10 years. The church was originally built in 1832 by members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Upkeep on the building completely halted in the late 1980s.
