    A new editor has been appointed to lead two sister weeklies after their former chief decided to move back to his native region. Chris Faulds is to take the helm at the Border Telegraph and the Peebleshire News, following the departure of Callum Hodgson. Callum, who joined the Newsquest-owned titles as a trainee reporter in 2016, is moving on to take up an as-yet-undisclosed new role in his native North East of England. Chris, pictured below, moves from the Alloa Advertiser where he was a reporter.

    A former weekly newspaper editor who was also motoring correspondent for a regional daily has died aged 71. Tributes have poured in for John Griffiths, who started out on his hometown paper the Bridgnorth Journal in 1973 and returned there as editor 31 years later. In the interim John enjoyed long stints on the Shropshire Star and Express & Star where he was motoring correspondent. He retired in 2014 and died at his home in Telford following a short illness.

    A regional daily’s ‘family brand’ is marking its 10th anniversary after growing from nothing to having 87,000 followers on Facebook. Manchester Family was started by the Manchester Evening News in 2015 under the auspices of parenting editor Emma Gill. The creation of the ‘brand within a brand’ stemmed from a desire to ‘make life easier’ for the city’s parents by sharing their stories.

    A former editor accused of sending an obscene tweet to a Jewish campaigner is to stand trial in November. Greg Hadfield, who edited the Brighton & Hove Independent between 2013 and 2015, appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court last week for a pre-trial review. His trial had been originally due to take place on 24 June, but has now been rescheduled for 17-18 November.

    Industry auditor ABC is to change its reporting standards to allow digital copies to count towards overall circulation. Publishers will now be able to report both print and digital copies sent to the same individual in their main circulation figure, it was announced today. This move, supported by the industry and approved by ABC’s board, is designed to enable total ABC circulation to fully represent print and digital copies, reflecting how media is consumed across both formats.
