IndiaSpend

IndiaSpend is the first initiative in India dedicated to data journalism. Our mission is to harness open data to explore various issues, aiming to promote better governance, transparency, and accountability within the Indian government. Established in late 2011 by Govindraj Ethiraj, a seasoned journalist and former Founder Editor-in-Chief of Bloomberg TV India, IndiaSpend is quickly becoming a trusted source for accurate data and information on the Indian economy, particularly in the fields of education and healthcare, as well as insights into different states across India. Recognizing the importance of reliable data—not just in India but globally—we see a significant opportunity to spotlight crucial statistics that can guide the nation in making informed decisions on key policy matters. We believe this focus on data will be increasingly vital in the coming years, as citizens engage more actively in governance. Additionally, we aim to make data appealing and the go-to resource for the youth of India, encouraging them to prioritize data over opinions by leveraging various social media platforms to connect with this demographic. IndiaSpend operates as a non-profit project under The Spending & Policy Research Foundation, based in Lower Parel, Mumbai, and is registered as a Charitable Trust with the Charity Commissioner of Mumbai.
