Joe My God
I grew up in the countryside of North Carolina. One of my favorite memories from childhood is when I would play in the thick, smoky mist released by the county's mosquito control truck during its evening rounds along our dirt road. As soon as we heard the faint hum of the truck's engine, the shout of “Smokey! Smokey!” would echo down Nine Foot Road. Kids would burst out of their homes, eager for ten minutes of fun in the swirling clouds of DDT. We would collide with each other in the fog, laughing and shrieking with joy, only to get up and start running around again. Our parents didn't worry at all about us playing near the truck. In fact, being forbidden to join in the fun was sometimes used as a punishment for misbehavior. I think this experience has shaped a lot of who I am today.

U.S. lawmakers are proposing a bill that would allow some Canadian snowbirds to stay in the United States longer, in hopes of rebuilding cross-border tourism and supporting local economies. The Canadian Snowbird Visa Act proposes to extend the length of time eligible Canadian citizens aged 50 and over could visit the U.S. without a visa to 240 days, up from the current 182 days that are permitted each year.

Fox News host Bret Baier admits that President Donald Trump’s decade-long “Fake News” crusade is to blame for plummeting trust in the mainstream media. Baier, 54, said the president “broke the system” and decimated whatever trust remained in the media before he took over the Republican Party in 2016. “Maybe that was part of his MO, what he wanted to do,” Baier told Politico’s Deep Dive podcast on Friday. The host said that those in the media are partly to blame, too.
