INDIANAOLA, Sanpete County — Both directions of U.S. 89 were closed for a time on Thursday after a fatal crash involving a semitruck, according to the Sanpete Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post that a crash occurred on U.S. 89 at mile marker 293, just south of Big Hollow Road. The Department of Public Safety said the crash involved a 68-year-old male driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe.

SALT LAKE CITY — Fire officials said 200 people were evacuated from the Salt Lake Metro Jail on Thursday after a fire broke out. According to officials on scene, a contractor was working on the HVAC system in the building at the time the flames began, which was sometime before noon on Thursday. Fire Chief Terry Addison with the South Salt Lake Fire Department said many fire departments responded to the scene. Addison made no mention of any possible injuries.

SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a shooting involving a 16-year-old boy Wednesday night. Josh Lee with the Riverton Police Department said the incident took place around 6:30 p.m. A 16-year-old boy and his 35-year-old uncle got into a “verbal argument” at a home near South Homestead Lane. Lee said the argument led the two to the front yard. At some point, the 16-year-old allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the 35-year-old three times before fleeing the scene.
