The Illinois Fighting Illini are coming off one of the best seasons in program history. They reached ten wins for the first time since 1989 and ended the season ranked 16th in the AP Poll. A big reason why the team played so well is head coach Bret Bielema. He took over the program from Lovie Smith in 2021 and has built the program up over the last four years. The school wants him to continue building. Bielema has signed a six-year extension, keeping him in Champaign through 2030-31.
