City parks update In a report to council, Mark Dowhaniuk, manager of infrastructure, presented an update to carryover projects from 2024 to 2025 and special projects. According to Dowhaniuk, the Polson Park Naturalization project is done. "The bridge is in place, and we will be moving forward with phase 2 shortly in the summer months," he said. Due to excessive rain recently, city parks are behind schedule before opening up.

Vernon's Caitie Gingras is moving north to continue her post-secondary basketball career. The sophomore sharpshooter will be playing the 2025-26 season with the NCAA's Eastern Washington Eagles. The five-foot-nine-inch guard transferred from the University of California State (CSU) Bakersfield Roadrunners after one season. Gingras averaged 6.6 points per games in 26 minutes per game, while sniping a 37.9 per cent mark from beyond the arc.

A small fire inside of Subcity Donair in Kelowna prompted a brief closure on Bernard Avenue. Kelowna fire crews responded around 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 13 after reports of a small fire lit inside of the bathroom. Sub City patrons self-evacuated while Bernard Ave was closed between Ellis and Pandosy Street. According to a reporter on scene, the road has reopened and the three fire trucks that responded have left.

A Vernon local has made a name for himself on the national football scene and will have a chance to showcase his skills in May. Brady Szeman, an offensive lineman for the University of Calgary Dinos, has been selected to play in the 2025 East-West Bowl, which will be hosted on the University of Waterloo campus in Ontario. The East-West Bowl showcases top university players entering their last season of U Sports play.

Vernon's Cosmo Wilson is moving on to the second round of the WHL playoffs. Wilson's Victoria Royals defeated the Tri-City Americans four games to one to advance to the next round of the WHL postseason. Traded from the Moose Jaw Warriors prior to the start of the 2024-25 season, the six-foot, 163-pound defenceman accumulated seven goals and 21 assists in 63 games. In the first round of the playoffs, Wilson played in four of the five games, registering three assists.
