Young basketball players got the chance to showcase their skills for their potential future post-secondary institution on May 23 and 24. The Okanagan College Coyotes summer showcase took place throughout the weekend, with boys and girls teams ranging from under 11 to under 15 hitting the hardwood. Registered teams are guarantees four games throughout the three-day tournament, which extends into Sunday. Next weekend (May 30-June 1), the action continues with teams ranging from U16-U18.

The fire was discovered at 4:17 p.m. on Saturday, May 24 BC Wildfire Service is responding to a wildfire in Kamloops. The blaze was found at 4:17 p.m. in Kenna Cartwright Nature Park. It is currently described as out of control and sits at 0.009 hectares in size. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Kamloops Fire Rescue is also on scene. The City of Kamloops is asking residents to avoid the park and nearby trails at this time.

Teams battled for a good cause on Friday and Saturday (May 23 and 24) at MNP Place in Kelowna. Through the two days, the 16th annual McElhanney Cares Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon Charity Hockey & Soccer Tournament took place, hosted by McElhanney Ltd. While teams competed on the ice and the pitch, money was raised for Ronald McDonald House, providing critical support for families with children receiving medical treatment far from home.

It started Friday night and went into Saturday morning (May 24) but Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) were successful in helping Kelowna RCMP find a missing person. COSAR posted on social media about the incident, stating they were asked by RCMP to help find a "despondent subject." "We're happy to report the task was successfully completed by 6 a.m. this morning and everybody is home safe and sound," stated COSAR.

Fun was had by all at the Lake Country Fire Department's FireSmart Day and Open House on Saturday, May 24. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents attended the free event at Station #71 on Okanagan Centre Road East to learn about potentially life-saving fire safety tips, meet fire fighters, explore the firehall and more. Children in attendance got to spray the fire hose and explore the inside of a fire truck as well as meet Sparky the Fire Dog.
