The New Bedford immigrant who was arrested after agents smashed the window of his vehicle on April 14 is still in custody in New Hampshire even though a judge ordered his release Thursday. Juan Francisco Méndez will likely remain in custody as Immigration and Customs Enforcement files formal charges. His absence hung over the meal, leaving a family caught between hunger and dread, unsure whether to lift their forks or simply sit in silence. Rodas was arrested on Monday in the North End of New Bedford while on his way to pick up his daughter from school.
